All institutions of higher education are accredited, sanctioned, or certified by some type of standards agency.  The same is true for scuba certifying organizations.  For the United States, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the International Standards Organization (ISO) representative.  As the ANSI Accredited Standards Developer for recreational diving standards and safety, the Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC) actively participated in the ISO scuba training standards approval process.
PADI is a member of the RSTC.  To find out more about The World Recreational Scuba Training Council (WRSTC) and it’s American arm, RSTC visit their web site at http://wrstc.com/main.php and find out who the standards setters are.
